Proud to support Democrats

I am one of the 47 percent Mitt Romney speaks of. However, I am neither a victim nor irresponsible.
Although I am now on Social Security and Medicare, I have not expected the government to support me during my working years. I am a 71-year-old, retired professional who still works almost every day as a substitute teacher. I am from a working-class family whose dad worked two jobs until a World War II injury finally disabled him completely.
When I was not playing sports in high school, I took jobs sacking groceries and pumping gas. I graduated high school on a Friday and went to work full-time the following Monday. I have held a job every day for more than 53 years except for a few weeks between jobs due to bankruptcies and still work every day there is a teaching job available. As a professional, there were times when I was in the top 3 percent of wage earners and at times paid more than 30 percent of my pay in taxes.
During this time, while working full-time and raising a family, I earned a college degree and completed an additional two years of professional training, every penny of which came out of my pocket.
I am neither socialist nor communist. I believe in a capitalistic economic system but feel it should be tempered with regulation and social justice. I believe in the rights and dignity of the working man and woman and their right to collective bargaining. I believe the poor should have opportunities with full access to education and health care. The Republican Party has abandoned the middle class, the working class and the poor, and the only hope for participating in the American dream lies with the Democratic Party.
Mr. Romney, I am proud to support the Democratic Party and to be a part or the 47 percent you have abandoned.
