Those 25 painted horses helped showcase beauty of historic courthouse
We decided to take a stroll around downtown Newnan Court Square Friday morning to get another close look at the painted horses that will be moved soon after the Labor Day weekend. The 25 painted horses have been a fund-raising exhibit of the Newnan Coweta Historical Society in order to get money for a children’s museum. Local and area artists painted each of the horses, which have been on display around the historic 1904 courthouse since April.
Each horse was sponsored by a business, individual or civic organization. We reported last week the horses would be moved from the square beginning Sept. 10. They will be moved to parks, businesses and other public areas in the community.
Four of the horses will remain around the courthouse — one near each of the four corners of the building.
As we walked around the courthouse Friday, we indeed enjoyed the horses. But we once again were impressed by the beauty of the old courthouse and the Court Square area. The SPLOST money spent to remodel the courthouse was money well spent.
We can enjoy the building and the area today, and so can generations to come.
