We again need lofty goals

I was saddened a week ago to find out that a true American hero had died. When Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon on July 20, 1969, the world was mesmerized.
That “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” was the culmination of dreams coming true.
The hard work and sacrifice of many NASA employees, and their families, brought the U.S. victory in the space race. Look what we can do when we dream and work together.
The last lunar mission was 40 years ago. Think about that.
These days, it’s the latest smart phone that gets people excited. It’s way past time for this country to come together and achieve big goals again. Let’s put our petty differences behind us and start focusing on improving our educational system, getting people the skills to work the jobs of the 21st century, and dreaming big.
President Kennedy set us a big goal early in the 1960s to reach the moon by the end of that decade. We did it. Look up at the moon. Don’t you think we can achieve great things again?
