Tonight's your chance to speak out on noisebarriers along I-85What do you think about how the Georgia DOT plans to install noise barriers along some stretches of Interstate 85 between Exit 47 at Bullsboro Drive and Exit 61, the Fairburn/Peachtree City exit in South Fulton County?
If you have comments on the noise barriers, a public informational open house is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. today at Northgate High School on Fischer Road in North Coweta. This is a drop-in meeting allowing you to ask questions or make comments to DOT representatives.
DOT has conducted a noise study of this interstate corridor, and you can find out where along the route the testing determined noise barriers might be needed.
While the barriers are unsightly, they are certainly needed along the interstate where Northgate High is only a few yards from the interstate.
There are sections of I-85 where noise barriers will be on one side or the other, or both, said a DOT spokesman. And there are sections where no sound wall was found to be warranted and thus will not be constructed.
The $10 million project is expected to be completed within 24 months.
