Heart-warming story with a happy ending
What a heart-warming news story. A young Moreland substitute mail carrier comes to the aid of an elderly customer who had fallen inside her home and was unable to get up.The woman had fallen the day before. The telephone was not working. Her elderly husband was unable to get help, but the woman wrote a “Dear Postmistress” note, pleading for assistance. The husband was able to take the note to the mailbox, where carrier Jodi Wasden found it.
When Wasden found the note she was suspicious about the situation, wondering how the note got in the mailbox if the woman who wrote it couldn’t get up from the fall. Wasden called the postmistress, who knew the elderly couple that lived there.
Wasden went inside, found the couple, called both 911 and a daughter-in-law. Help arrived and the couple received needed care. The woman is undergoing rehabilitation for a broken hip. She plans to return home.
Wasden’s actions are a reminder for all of us. If we have elderly people around us, be alert to any signal they are in distress or might need help.
Thank you again, Jodi Wasden.
