If gas prices reach $5 per gallon by Memorial Day as many are predicting, will you seriously consider purchasing a more fuel-efficient automobile?

Sunday's high temperature of 70 degrees had Coweta County residents getting outdoors with their short sleeves and shorts. It was a Super Sunday -- weather-wise in our area.

Today is Super Bowl Sunday. The game kicks off around 6:30 p.m., but for millions the entire day will revolve around Super Bowl activities. No other sporting event captures the attention of Americans as this professional football championship game.

Editor's note: Here is a sampling of readers' comments about our Wednesday editorial: "We like the idea of reviewing effectiveness of state agencies." This editorial pertained to Senate Bill 223, which, if approved, would give state agencies an expiration date unless they are renewed by legislation. The comments were posted on times-herald.com.

We write often in the news pages and on this Community Forum page about the generosity of our community. This is indeed a caring, compassionate community.

A recent opinion suggested implementing a surtax on HOPE student incomes after they leave college. Then HOPE becomes another type of student loan, and these investments have poor repayment rates.

I wanted to commend Malcolm Jackson and the citizens of Coweta County for their exemplary performance in welcoming home our Vietnam veterans on 17 October 2011.

Lyndon Johnson introduced the Great Society to America. I guess he thought he was doing the right thing, but time has proven that his ideas for a better America with better people was a total and complete failure.

Officials of the HOPE scholarship program raised new fears they may not be able to continue current funding rates. Even today, HOPE is incapable of covering all of a student's tuition costs, forcing many to miss out on this opportunity.

My husband and I were shopping in Walmart on the evening of Jan. 23. Entering the store my husband looked up and said there goes a peregrine falcon. I said "what?" He told me to look up and watch. Sure enough I saw a large bird go flying by.

Brainstorming: Crazy ideas are sometimes called brainstorming. I remember submitting a crazy idea at the plant where I worked. When we changed a manufacturing technique, my idea was no longer in outer space. I earned a nice bonus.

Newt: Are you kidding? Family problems? Cheating on your wife is not a family problem, it is a morality problem. And we don't need a first lady without morals either. No elegance there.
.....
Pro-Bush: How can you say you are better off now with Obama than you were with George Bush? Apparently you have no understanding of economics. When Bush was in office, my investments were doing great but since Obama has been in office, I've lost most of it.
.....
Singing President: If butchering an Al Green song got the president millions of votes and dollars, we have truly completed the dumbing down of America. And the song is called "Let's Stay Together," not "I'm so in love with you."
.....
The endorsement: I'm sure Trump endorsed Romney because he'll do the most for the little people.
.....
Dig deeper: It's so funny to think that it was just the eight years of the Bush Administration that caused this whole mess. You clearly don't understand economics. Dig deeper.
.....
It's Barney's fault: Democrats caused the mess we're in thanks to Barney Frank and those who forced banks to make home loans to folks who could not qualify. G.W. Bush tried to stop Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, but no one listened. Ergo the problem.
.....
Family problems: Huge skeletons are why Herman Cain got out. How is Newt Gingrich any different? No one is perfect; however, some things just can't be swept under the rug.
.....
Blame Clinton: Bush walked into someone else's mess. If Obama had done one thing to help our economy, I would be all for him. He didn't so all his campaign talk was lies. Go ahead and praise him, but just know he doesn't care about you either.

Outstanding event: Junction Lanes and the Special Adult Bowlers should be congratulated on an outstanding event. Thank you volunteers.

I'm right: You Obama lovers really must not like this country or its foundation. I am so glad conservatism is the majority of this city and state. Study Obama's beliefs and think about them. You know I'm right.
