Newnan Rotary Club gives back to our community in big way

Posted 2/7/2010 | Comments (0)

When the man on the street in Newnan and Coweta County thinks of the Newnan Rotary Club, he may recall the gigantic Fourth of July evening of entertainment and fireworks the club hosts each year at Drake Stadium on the Newnan High School campus.

February quest unearths Abraham Lincoln stories

Posted 2/6/2010 | Comments (0)

Welcome to February. We know it's the second month and the shortest month, but how did it get such a strange name? July and August are named for emperors, but February?

Moon mission golden opportunity

Posted 2/9/2010

President Obama has canceled NASA's Orion Program that would have sent astronauts back to the moon to continue the agency's history of exploration. While I agree with the decision to cancel the mission to the Moon, I am still in favor of returning there. Now is the time to close the door on the government's monopoly on lunar exploration and to open the door to the private sector. This would usher in a new era of economic prosperity for our country and allow NASA to focus on making truly amazing discoveries.

Senoia special place

Posted 2/8/2010

I would like to thank the Chamber of Commerce for recognizing Senoia with one of four prosperity awards for 2009. Councilman Maurice Grover and I were proud to accept the award.

Change name of speech

Posted 2/7/2010

I think the State of Union speech should be changed to the State of B.S. speech. It doesn't matter if it is Republican or Democrat. They are all the same.

Obama's administration the worst

Posted 2/6/2010

More than 200 years of limited government allowed this country to become the greatest nation on earth. Limited government, with the accompanying freedoms given to us by the Founding Fathers through the Constitution, made the U.S. the envy of the world.

NEVER HAPPY: I got so tired of people wishing me a happy Groundhog Day. Merry rodentia would have been sufficient.

SALUTE: I salute drivers that use headlights when it rains, use their turn signals and come to a full stop then make a right turn on red if nothing is approaching from the left.

RIGHT TO KNOW: People deserve to know what goes on with Newnan Police and all other government agencies because the people who work at these places are employees of taxpayers -- a fact that is generally forgotten. They are not like other work places.

HEALTH CARE: It is not illegal for a health care facility to turn away a patient. It's only illegal for any hospital that receives federal funding to do so. It would be illegal for the urgent care only if they are a Medicaid provider, which they are probably not.

MANLY ADVICE: Men, let me offer advice from someone who has been married for 23 years. Never, ever make negative comments about your wife's weight or hair.

NO PARKING: Why can't Newnan City Council vote to place a "no parking" sign on LaGrange Street right after you go over the bridge toward the high school? The car that parks their every day is going to cause a wreck, and this needs to stop.
