Mr. W.A. (Mickey) Williams, Jr.

Obituary

Mr. W.A. (Mickey) Williams Jr. of Sharpsburg passed away Sunday, September 21, 2008. Mr. Williams was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to Winston A. and Ruth Williams Sr. on July 15, 1925. Mr. Williams was retired from BellSouth after 36 years of service. He was a WWII veteran, having served as a member of the U.S. Army's 29th Division, 115th Infantry during the D-Day Normandy invasion, and was captured and held prisoner by the Germans until the war's end. He was a member of the WW II Roundtable, VFW, The Gideon's International, Ramah First Baptist Church and a Charter member of Canongate Golf Club. He is preceded in death by his sister, Lavelle Petty and son Joe Williams.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Lovelace Williams of Sharpsburg; daughter, Cathie Lakeman and husband Dale of Lake Wedowee, AL; sons, Allen Williams and wife Ilu of Orlando, FL, Jim Williams of Woodstock; 9 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. at Ramah First Baptist Church in Palmetto with remains placed in state at 1 p.m. Rev. Daryl O'Barr officiating. Interment Westview Cemetery.
