Mrs. Frances Marie Teel

Mrs. Frances Marie Teel, 76, of Newnan, Ga., died Sunday, May 19, 2013. She was born March 9, 1937. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Frances had a love for family, flowers and fishing. Known affectionately by those who loved her as "Mamaw," she loved a good celebration with friends and family down at her lake, and was known to grab the microphone from any band to sing "Satin Sheets."

Frances is survived by husband, Donald Teel; siblings, Nathan and Caroline Gillenwaters, Ralph and Maureen Gillenwaters, Clark and Irmy Gillenwaters, Cile Fincher, Sally Shaver and Janice and Carlton Moore; children, Cheryl and Clark Hungerford, Don and Michele Teel, Greg and Patty Teel and Steve and Denise Teel; grandchildren, Trey and Heather Teel, Jason and Lisa Teel, Franklin and Jessica Hungerford, Ashley Hungerford, Jonathan and Jaqueline Teel, Blake Hungerford, Tiffany and Ryan Callahan, Lauren Teel, Hunter and Megan Teel, Christopher Teel, Gregory Teel, Emily Teel and Hannah Teel; great-grandchildren Elle, Emma, Hendrix, Conner, Tripp and Jackson.

Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Crowl and Bessie Gillenwaters; siblings, Howard Gillenwaters, Clinton Gillenwaters, Claud Gillenwaters, Nell Jones; two siblings who died in infancy; and Frances' two children, Sybil Darlene and Tina Marie, who died in infancy.

Active in civic and political activity, Frances served as president of the Pilot Club and the Powers Crossroads Board. She was a Georgia delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1976, and appointed by the Governor to serve on the Dental Board.

Frances loved her family, and she loved life. Her later years, while marked by a lengthy illness, showed her strong spirit and sheer determination to live in order to spend more time with family and friends. Her family will greatly miss Frances' spark and sense of humor. Her legacy is certainly the importance of family and making the most of every moment in life.

A private family burial was held. The visitation is Monday evening between 6 - 8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan.

Family and friends will gathere at The Teel home Tuesday evening between 4 and 8 p.m. to celebrate Frances' life.
