Miss Mary Ann Brown

Miss Mary Ann Brown, 85, of Fayetteville, GA, passed away May 6, 2013, after a severe stroke on April 23. She is the daughter of Reverend Walter E. Brown of Madras and Martha Nettie Weldon Brown of Inman, GA.

Mary is survived by 12 nieces and nephews, their children and many cousins. She was born at the Methodist parsonage in Temple, GA, on Nov. 26, 1927. She graduated from Cartersville High School and the University of Georgia in 1949 with a major in dietetics from the School of Home Economics, where she received a number of honors and awards. She worked for the U.S. Public Health Service (then part of the U.S. Navy) in hospitals in Staten Island, NY, New Orleans, LA, and Galveston, TX. She attained the rank of lieutenant during the Korean War. She then accepted a position in the Veteran’s Administration serving as assistant chief dietitian in VA hospitals in Houston, TX, Little Rock and North Little Rock, AK. She was later promoted to chief dietitian at the VA hospital in Birmingham, AL, and Dallas, TX.

After retirement she came back to Georgia and began the Culpepper House Bed and Breakfast in Senoia. After 12 years in Senoia she moved to Fayetteville and has lived at Azalea Estates Assisted Living for the last nine years. She was a member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Parish Class and the Fincher Ramsey Circle of the UMW. She was a member of the Titus II Club and a member of the Kinfolks Club. Mary traveled the world, enjoyed entertaining, dancing, good books, her family and friends.

A visitation will be held Thursday, May 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. A graveside service will be held Friday, May 10 at Jones Chapel Cemetery, 2331 Hwy. 29 N., Newnan, GA 30265 at 10 a.m. Reverend Kristin Heiden will officiate. A memorial service will follow at First United Methodist Church, Fayetteville, GA, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, Senoia Area Historical Society or to the charity of your choice.
