Mr. John “Sonny” Ellison

Mr. John “Sonny” Maurice Ellison, age 75, of Douglasville, GA, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013. He was born January 25, 1938 in Greer, SC.

Mr. Ellison was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson College of Law and owner/president of Surface Maintenance Company, Inc. He loved tennis, dancing, poker, scuba diving, snow skiing, flying ultralight aircraft, and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ferris Ellison and Elma Armenta Kinney Ellison.

He is survived by Jeannette Ellison of Douglasville, GA; sons, Steve Ellison of Albany, GA and Michael Ellison of Marietta, GA; daughter, Jennifer Tackett and husband Keith of Villa Rica, GA; grandchildren, Brittany and Erika Ellison; Kori, Kathryn, Megan and Mason Tackett; sister, Vera Ellison; and several cousins.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 5-7 p.m. The graveside service will be Sunday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. at Yonah Memorial Park, Demorest, GA, with Rev. Herbert Chisenhall officiating. Express condolences or share a special memory at www.whitleygarner.com .
