Federal government fails in almost everything
Social Security (a misnomer) was signed into law by F.D. Roosevelt in 1935. In 1981, a county in Texas opted out. In 1982, two more counties followed suit. Their plan was called "The Alternate Plan.” These counties took 6.2% of wages paid and matched that with county funds. Similar to Social Security funding.
Today, those retirees in Texas who earned about $50,000 annually receive $3,600 per month compared to $1,540 from Social Security. Those with higher incomes get $5,000-$6,000 monthly compared to $2,500 from Social Security.
When a Social Security recipient dies, his widow and/or minor offspring can get a small income. The Alternate Plan member leaves his entire account to his estate. Disability benefits under Social Security require a six-month wait: under "The Plan,” immediate. The best part of The Plan, if you don't pay into it you don't get from it unless you are a surviving family member. Social Security death benefit, $255.The Plan carries a $215,00 insurance policy on each employee. Needless to say, our government, detesting individual success, passed laws against opting out of Social Security.
Medicare and Medicaid had their beginnings in 1965. Need I tell you how they are doing? If one has an inkling of knowledge relative to these programs, you are aware that combined with Social Security, America (our children and grand children) has unfunded liabilities in excess of $60 trillion. With the borrowed money debt of almost $17 trillion, I cannot begin to imagine why any sane person would give any more control of anything to government. Is it so more can be added to food stamp rolls, more can get tax-paid cell phones, housing and whatever the liberal government feels is equitable?
Government has failed miserably in every endeavor except the military and highway system, neither of these being run by by politicians. When they do interfere with these two they usually mess up. In so many ways, public apathy and the ever-growing government have allowed politicians to reach the brink of destroying this once great nation.
