Tony was born October 15, 1953, in Manchester, Ga., one of four sons to Melvin and Annie Pearl Eggleton Sherrer. Tony dedicated a few years of his life to the Armed Services when he enrolled in the Navy after graduating from Newnan High School. He worked the majority of his life as a welder and iron worker, traveling all over the country “hanging iron.”
Mr. Tony was highly regarded in his field, and was often hired as a foreman or general foreman from as far north as Maine to as far south as Florida. Adding to his list of achievements, he later earned certification as a crane operator. In his spare time, Tony enjoyed riding Harley Davidsons, attending drag races and spending time with family and friends. Many years of his life were spent on Lake Martin, where he simply loved to be outdoors. Tony was a man who took his time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
Tony was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Robert (Bob) Sherrer, and his mother, Annie Pearl Sherrer. Survivors include his father, Melvin Sherrer of Jackson Gap, Al; his daughter, Layla Roseanne Sherrer; and his son, Anthony Drew Sherrer, both of Green Sea, SC; his brothers, Ricky Sherrer and his wife Deanna of Newnan, Ga, and Travis Sherrer and his wife Julie of Newnan, Ga; a sister-in-law, Patricia Sherrer of Woodbury, Ga; 8 nieces and nephews.
Contributions in memory of Tony may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research hospital, an organization he often donated to and which held a special place in his heart.
