We respectfully announce the passing of Mrs. Eunice Geter, age 96, of Newnan, GA, on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at Harbor Grace Hospice in Atlanta.
She entered this life on Nov. 5, 1916, to the late Arlena Wood Phillips and Frank Phillips. She attended school in Heard County. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and joined the Bethel Heard Baptist Church at an early age. On Nov. 24, 1947, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Deacon Mitchell C. (Dit) Geter. She had two sons that preceded her in death, James and Clifford.
She was a devoted as well as a dedicated Christian. She served as chairperson of the usher board for many years as well as other auxiliaries in Bethel Heard Baptist Church. She was a member of the Willing Hand Workers Club, a club that brought several communities together participating in many activities to include sharing the Word of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an extraordinary church worker, diligently and faithfully fulfilling all her duties as a church member. She was well-known as a caring person, and loved by those in the community because of the kindness and love she showed to all. She served the Lord until she was called home.
Mourning her departure while cherishing loving memories of her are: three children, Ms. Mary (Echols) Geter, East Point, GA, Deacon Artie C. and Mildred Geter, Atlanta, GA, Bishop Willie L. and Lillie Geter, Newnan, GA; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, and nephews.
A special thanks to a very dedicated and devoted caregiver for 18 months, Ms. Catherine Wood.
Viewing: Friday, Feb. 15, 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 16 at 11 a. m. at Bethel Heard Baptist Church, 2484 Charlie B. Johnson Road, Franklin, GA 30271. In-state viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Interment at Bethel Heard Church Cemetery. The family will assemble at Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bethel Heard Baptist Church, P.O. Box 802, Newnan, GA 30264, in memory of Eunice Geter.
