Mrs. Opal Carter Thompson, age 77, of Brooks, Ga., died at her residence on Jan. 23, 2013.
She was born in Coweta County to the late Thomas Carter and Louise Stubbs Carter.
She was a school bus driver for Coweta County for many years. Mrs. Thompson was a member of First Baptist church of Haralson and the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Jack Carter; sisters, Lucy Sewell, Jean Cook, and Martha Barrington; grandson, Samuel Lawson. Surviving are her husband, James Thompson of Brooks; son, Jim Thompson (Jamie) of Haralson; daughters, Belinda Wilson (Pete) of Haralson, Pam Lawson (David) of Brooks, Paige Poncela (Mike) of Colorado; brothers, Bud Carter (Charlene) of Newnan, Bill Carter (Elizabeth) of Florida, Richard Carter (Judy) of Fayetteville; sisters, JoAnn Rickett of Coweta County, Sandra Cavender (Pete) of Sharpsburg, Lynn Wilson (Danny) of Newnan; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 at First Baptist Church of Haralson with remains placed in state at 1 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Danny Wilson, Rev. Drew Ross, and Rev. James Harris. Interment will follow at Haralson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Friday, 5-7 p.m.
