Betty Joe Logan Bohannon, age 85, of Moreland, Ga., passed away on Jan. 18, 2013, at her home in Moreland. “Nannie” was comforted in her last hours by her beloved children and grandchildren.
Betty Joe was born in Rome, Ga. She was the oldest of six children born to the late Joe Carl and Bonnie Lanham Logan, both of whom died when she was just a child. She was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Kate Whitlock Logan. Preceding her in death also was her husband, Leonard Twichell Bohannon in 1988.
She found her calling in life as a nurse. During her career, she worked in the offices of Dr. Joe Parks Jr. and Dr. Ben Jenkins and also at Newnan Hospital. She later served her family and community as a homemaker and caregiver to those both young and old.
Betty Joe and Leonard had four children. Robin Bohannon and his wife Harriett are residents of Augusta. Kate Bohannon, Sally Bohannon Millians and her husband Bill live in Moreland. Her late daughter, Lenn Bohannon Milford, and her husband Joe made their home in Augusta. Her siblings include Richard Logan, James Logan, Lynda (and husband Jimmy) King, Gayle (and husband Howard) Sewell, Brenda (and husband Gerald) Faver. Her house abounded with 18 grandchildren, Lenny (and Paige) Brad (and Alicia), Maggie, Jody (and Dave), Zack, Logan, Gwen, Ann, Tina, Christy, Jessica, Sarah, Marvin, Robin; and a child she loved and cared for, Nikki. There are also 11 great-grandchildren and more nieces and nephews than one can count.
A devoted member of Moreland United Methodist Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, children’s ministry leader and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She also served as a leader in The Boy Scouts of American and Girl Scouts USA. Famed Moreland son Lewis Grizzard was among her charges in the local Boy Scout troop. A person who loved cooking and sewing, she was truly dedicated to God, her family and her community.
Funeral arrangements were by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street, Newnan. The funeral service was on Monday, Jan. 21 at The Moreland United Methodist Church with Dr. David Brackman officiating.
