Mr. Bobby R. Simonton, retired Lt. Col., U.S. Army, age 83, of Newnan, Georgia, formerly of Carrollton died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013.
Mr. Simonton was born in Heard County, GA, on Sept. 5, 1929, the son of the late Carl Alexander Simonton and Nola Yates Simonton.
He served in the U.S. Army, retiring after 30 years of service obtaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. He later worked and retired from Southern Bell, was a member of the Carroll Masonic Lodge #69 for over 50 years and Carrollton First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir for over 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Simonton; daughter and son-in-law, Julie Simonton and David McCombs of Alexandria, Virginia; two grandchildren, Evie and Mia McCombs; three nieces and four nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jo Anne Simonton; brother, Norman Simonton; sisters, Dura Barr, Doris Perdue and Novyce Walker.
The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
A memorial service will be Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Dr. Jimmy Thurman officiating.
Interment will be in the Carrollton City Cemetery with American Legion Post #143 presenting the flag.
