Mrs. Linda Stitcher Long, 75, of Newnan, GA, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Atlanta Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 15, 1937, in Newnan, GA to the late Buford & Essie Neill Stitcher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Emmett R. Long Jr.
Linda was the beloved matriarch of her family and she leaves a lasting legacy to all whom she knew and loved. She was known by many as a pioneer, a visionary, a comedian, a scholar, a historian, and her death leaves a void in the hearts of her family and in this community.
She was a 1955 graduate of Newnan High School and later graduated from Georgia Baptist School of Radiology. She met and became friends with many people while caring for them as a radiologist at PAPP Clinic during her 42 years of work.
The funeral is Saturday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Martin & Rev. Jim Hearn officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The visitation is Friday evening between 6 and 8 at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan. Rather than flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to either Lovejoy Memorial United Methodist Church, 60 East Washington St., Newnan, GA 30263 or to Freeman Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 755, Newnan, GA 30264.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 56 years, Emmett “Bud” Long; daughter & son-in-law, Dora & Benny Hayes; granddaughters, Lindy Hayes, Ashley Desjardin & husband Dwayne; great-grandson, Benjamin Desjardin; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
