Julia Mae Bridges Warner “Mama Julia” was born Sept. 11, 1923, to the late John Henry and Tossie Favors Bridges in Senoia, Ga. “Dut,” as she was called by her family, attended school in the local communities of Senoia and Blackjack. She later went to Fort Valley State College to pursue a career in teaching. She taught at several schools, including Luthersville Elementary in Luthersville, Ga. She also worked for a few years at Pascall in Peachtree City and for many years at Maxwell-Prince furniture in Newnan. After the closing of Maxwell-Prince, she worked part-time at Canady furniture until her husband’s health began to fail.
At an early age, she became a member of Neriah Baptist Church in Senoia. After she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Bryant Warner Sr., “Pop,” on April 14, 1942, she later joined Clark Chapel United Methodist Church where she served faithfully for many years until her health failed. She was president of the United Methodist Women and the church secretary.
Mama Julia was a beautiful, God-fearing, and hard working church woman who believed in doing the right thing in life. She always went the extra mile to help others as God would have us to do. She was an intelligent woman with a lot of wisdom. She always had something good and inspiring to say no matter what the problem or the situation. She played the piano and loved to sing from her heart. She was the pianist at Wesley Chapel AME, Newnan, for a short period and loved the song “You Ought to Have Been There When the Lord Saved Me.”

Mama Julia was a great cook and always cooked big meals. She was known for her sweet potato cobbler, fried pies, biscuits, and potato custard.

Four children preceded her in death: Dr. Paul Nelson Warner Sr., Joe Lemon Warner, Carnell Warner, and Brenda Warner Marshall; and one son-in-law, Al Curtis Brown. Mama Julia was the last of all her siblings.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories and continue her legacy three daughters: Mr. and Mrs. Alex (Glenda) Godfrey Sr., Mrs. Gwendolyn Brown, and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Paul (Eloise) Barber; four sons, Mr. and Mrs. Walter (Doris) Connally, Mr. and Mrs. Bryant (Lutricia) Warner Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Ronald (Linda Ruth) Warner, and Rev. and Mrs. Julian (Vanessa) Warner Sr.; one son-in-law, Mr. Charly Marshall; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Myra Warner, Mrs. Gene Warner; two special nieces/sisters, Mrs. Elvia Spear, Senoia, and Mr. and Mrs. J.
