God is still in control

I am an American, and I’m proud of it. However, I am very disappointed with the election results from Tuesday. It seems the country I love, the country I grew up in, has changed for the worse.
One of President John F Kennedy’s most famous quotes is: “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” The response to that speech was amazing. People served our country in the armed forces, in the Peace Corps and generally just served each other, willingly and gladly.
Now, sadly, it appears that we have come full circle to where the general American public asks “What can my government give me?” As a nation, we no longer take true responsibility for ourselves. As a nation, we blame previous administrations for all of our troubles instead of searching for real solutions. Even individually, a vast majority of the American public looks for someone to blame instead of taking responsibility for our own failures.
What went wrong, America? When did we let our government turn into such a nanny figure? Why did we let that happen?
The only saving grace in the whole thing is no matter what anyone else thinks, God is still in control. Not the politically-correct, believe anything you want and you’re OK-kind of god that most Americans have come to believe in, but the Almighty God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Creator of the world and everything in it.
I offer the same challenge that Joshua gave to the Israelites near the end of his time as leader: “Choose you this day whom you will serve ... but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
