Mr. George Walter Thompson, 94, went to be with his Lord on Sept. 19, 2012, at Southwest Christian Hospice. He was born May 22, 1918, in Coweta County to the late Otis & Myrtle Lou Gable Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Julian Thompson, Richard Thompson, Lamar Thompson; sisters, Dorothy Welden and Christine Carpenter; and his beloved wife of 69 years, Evelyn Rowe Thompson.
He survived by his children, Shirley (George) Sherrer, Janice (Herman) Peace, Allen (Berenda) Thompson and Jerry (Virginia) Thompson. He is survived by his sisters, Jean Thompson, Helen Williams, and brother Bernard Thompson; and one sister-in-law, Raye Gray. He is also survived by grandchildren, Stephanie Haire, Shannon Roberts, Tammy Rabern, Pat Burnette, Allen Thompson Jr., Tracy Hough, Christy Nix, Laura Bender and Walter Thompson. In addition to his grandchildren he is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 21 at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 135 Hwy 85 & Line Creek Dr. in Haralson, GA at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Cemetery following the service.
