Woman found asleep with beer in Wal-Mart restroom

By Alex McRae

The Newnan Times-Herald

A Palmetto woman was charged with shoplifting a six-pack after she was found snoozing in a stall at Wal-Mart.

According to a Feb. 4 incident report, Newnan Police Officer Zachery Anderson went to the Wal-Mart store in Newnan Crossing East center on Bullsboro Drive to investigate a shoplifting report. A Wal-Mart employee told Anderson that when she went to check on some alleged raunchiness in the restroom, she discovered a female, later identified as Carrie Pierce, asleep in a stall. A carton of empty beer bottles was nestled next to her. Another partially full container of alcohol was also present.

The Wal-Mart employee told Anderson that after Pierce was roused, she wandered to the women's department and while "very unsteady on her feet," began passing out flyers for a tax preparation service.

A check of surveillance videos showed the suspect had taken the beer off a Wal-Mart shelf and swallowed it in the stall without bothering to buy it. A shoplifting arrest ensued.

The following unrelated incidents were reported by the Newnan Police Department:

n NPD Officer Josh Keller reports he had no troubling taking in a suspect after a Feb. 7 traffic stop that resulted in several drug-related charges.

Keller stopped the car driven by Tomonaka Dewayne McKeever, of Newnan, after McKeever was observed cruising with his lights off.

As Keller approached the car, McKeever put his hands up and said, "You got me. I'm busted." McKeever's door was damaged and he had to exit NASCAR-style through the window.

Keller reported that as McKeever was being cuffed, he said, "Take me. I have no license. I'm going to jail."

McKeever's passenger, Derrick Cleveland of Newnan, then exited through the window as well, according to the incident report. A search of Cleveland's pockets produced 42 small pink plastic bags and $517 in cash. When asked what kind of work he did, Cleveland told officers he was unemployed.

Inside the vehicle, officers found several large plastic bags containing suspected marijuana. Eight smaller bags containing suspected cocaine were found mingled with the marijuana.

At the jail, a further search of Cleveland's socks revealed a half-smoked cigar packed with pot.

McKeever was charged with driving with no headlights, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of cocaine. Cleveland was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and passing a guard line with drugs.

n A Peachtree City man's local shopping excursion ended badly when he realized that while he was retailing, the rear end was ripped from his ride.

On Feb. 5, NPD Officer Chris McGee responded to Wal-Mart and met Harry Schulz, who reported his Ford truck had been devalued. Schulz told McGhee that he and his wife had shopped at the Bullsboro Drive Wal-Mart for a little more than half an hour. When they returned to their vehicle, Schulz saw that his truck's tailgate had been taken.

Video surveillance tapes revealed that two men in a white truck pulled up behind Schulz's truck, removed the tailgate, tossed it in their truck and took off. The investigation continues.
