WGTC workshops set this week in honor of Literacy week in Georgia
by Celia Shortt
This week is Literacy Week for the state of Georgia, and West Georgia Technical College Adult Education is holding two workshops for anyone interested in tutoring adults.
The first workshop is on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 5:30 to 8:30. It is an introductory session, giving volunteers an overview of the WGTC Adult Education Program. Those who attend will learn ways of working with adult learners as well as useful strategies and resources for working with individual learners in the classroom.
The second workshop is on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 5:30 to 8:30. This one will focus on how to tutor and help adults who are struggling with basic reading skills. It will provide hands-on activities which can be used right away with students.
Both workshops will be held at the WGTC’s new Coweta Campus on 200 Campus Drive south of Newnan, off Turkey Creek Road. The workshop location is Building B, room 221. WGTC recommends that all those interested in volunteering attend orientation prior to attending the teaching strategies workshop.
