Victim recovering after stabbing

By Elizabeth Richardson

The Times-Herald

Douglas Andrew Harper, 51, of Sharpsburg, continues to recover after his wife, Josephine Harper, 55, allegedly stabbed him once in the chest Monday during a domestic dispute.

The incident took place Monday at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the Harpers' residence, 100 Clingstone Circle off Highway 154 south of Thomas Crossroads.

Deputies with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to what was reported as an aggravated assault with a knife, according to the police incident report. Upon arrival, they found Douglas Harper with a stab wound to the upper left shoulder area. The alleged offender, his wife, Josephine, had already left the residence.

The victim told police that he had returned home from work Monday about 5:30 p.m., and a short time later he and his wife began arguing. During the argument, Josephine allegedly began tearing at his clothes and stripped him of his shirt and shorts, according to the police report. Douglas Harper says that she became more angry and went to the kitchen and retrieved a large knife.

Harper stated his wife started swinging the knife at him and saying, "I'm going to kill you," according to the police report. The victim reported that he dodged several of the knife swipes before his wife stabbed him in the shoulder area. The victim told police that he then ran from the residence in nothing but his boxer shorts to go to a neighbor's house to call 911. However, he heard his wife get in her vehicle and leave, so he returned to his residence to notify the authorities, according to the report.

While investigators were taking Harper's statements at the scene, Josephine returned to the house. She declined to comment to investigators about what took place, according to the authorities.

She was arrested for aggravated assault with a knife and then transported to the Coweta County Jail. Her husband was transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital for treatment.

According to a spokesperson for the hospital, Harper was released from the hospital at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
