Two people were struck by the vehicle they were attempting to repossess in an incident June 6 in Newnan.

Vianey Guerrero, 21, of Newnan and Robert Dean, 38, of Newnan were in the Kroger parking lot at 1751 Newnan Crossing Boulevard East at 2:52 p.m. trying to repossess a green Saturn, according to the Newnan Police Department incident report.

Guerrero told police that as they approached the vehicle, they noticed a man in the driver's seat of the car. That man is identified as Tony Lee Newton, 34, of 142 Pope Circle in Newnan. Guerrero was standing in front of the car, Dean behind, when they told Newton of the repossession. Newton became agitated and started the car, according to the officer's report. He put the car in reverse, hitting Dean and then pulled forward, striking Guerrero. Newton drove through the parking lot while Guerrero remained on the hood.

Eventually, Newton slammed on the brakes, tossing Guerrero off the hood, and exited west onto Lower Fayetteville Road.

Newnan Police Officer Chad Wallace charged Newton with aggravated assault.

The following unrelated incidents were reported by the Newnan Police Department:

*Newnan police are looking for two suspects facing charges of simple battery for cutting Franklin Smallwood, 24, of Newnan with a piece of glass. Smallwood reported to police that two black males, one carrying a chrome pistol, the other a glass cup, jumped the fence that separates Highland Apartments and Summit Pointe Apartments on June 10 at 11:45 p.m. Smallwood said one of the men shouted at him while the other threw a glass cup at him. The cup shattered at his feet, sending a shard of glass into his leg. Smallwood refused any medical treatment for his wound.

*Eduardo Morales, 27, of 26 Helms Drive in Newnan was arrested June 20 at 11 p.m. for simple battery and interference with a 911 call. Officer Joel Fetner and Officer Garcia were dispatched to 26 Helms Drive in Newnan involving a domestic dispute. Eduardo Morales entered the home, began yelling at his wife, Julia Morales Apolinar, then started slapping her and beating her with a closed fist, according to the police report. She broke free long enough to grab a phone and begin calling 911, but Morales grabbed the phone before she could call. After Morales was arrested, he was transported to the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.

*On Monday, Kelly Rose Weisner, 30, of 14 Standish Court, Newnan, was arrested for shoplifting and possession of marijuana. Officer Abraham Bordeaux of the Newnan Police Department was called to the Food Depot on 124 Bullsboro Drive in response to a shoplifting call. After Bordeaux tried to put Weisner in handcuffs three times, she finally complied and allowed him to do so, according to the incident report.

Bordeaux asked Weisner if she had any contraband in her possession, such as drugs or weapons. She told him she had a knife in her front pocket, but no drugs. After conducting a pat-down, the officer found a bag of suspected marijuana. He then searched through her purse and found a glass smoking device with a strong odor of suspected marijuana. Weisner was taken into custody and transported to the sheriff's office for processing.
