Beginning Monday, two Coweta County roads will be closed for bridge/culvert repairs.
The work will close Luther Bailey Road for about two weeks, and Lower Fayetteville Road will be closed at Shoal Creek for nine months.
“We will replace the bridge with culverts. Work has begun on this project,” she said.
The road will be closed at the bridge beginning Nov. 26. Weather permitting, the majority of the work will be completed in two weeks and the road can be opened.
Even after Luther Bailey is re-opened, there will still be work to complete and there will be some times with only one lane open, Palmer cautions. The detour route will be Norton Road to Rock House Road to State Route 16.
On the Lower Fayetteville Road project, Georgia DOT will close the bridge on Lower Fayetteville Road over Shoal Creek beginning Nov. 26.
“This bridge will require much more significant work and the work will require the road to be closed there for approximately nine months,” Palmer said.
“The need for this replacement is great as this bridge serves a very busy road and it one of the lowest rated bridges in the county.”
The replacement bridge will be about 100 feet longer than the current bridge and the grade of the new bridge will be raised about 3.5 feet, she said. The detour route will be Bob Smith Road to Stewart Road to Hwy 54 to Fischer Road. The Lower Fayetteville Road bridge work is a Georgia Department of Transportation project.
