A Health Care Educational Town Hall Meeting will be held at the Coweta County Fairgrounds Monday night.
The public is invited to the free meeting at the Pine Road conference facility, which will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. Southern Crescent Tea Party Patriots is sponsoring the meeting.
Wendy Bloedt, Coweta County coordinator for the regional group, said the typical depiction of the Tea Party movement as "anti-tax" is not necessarily accurate. She said the Southern Crescent group is "not an anti-tax group."
The group is opposed to wasteful public spending. "We are fiscally conservative individuals," she said.
Bloedt said the meeting at the fairgrounds is aimed at offering information and insight about the health care issue. The meeting is not a protest, and signs will not be permitted, she said.
"They're not necessary," Bloedt said. "That's not what this is about."
U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-Grantville) was not available for the meeting. "We already know his stance. He is in agreement with us," Bloedt said.
The meeting at the fairgrounds will offer "an opportunity to educate the public on the specifics of the health care bills that are being proposed," she said. The meeting will also offer insights on "the problems in health care" and free market options for addressing them.
Bloedt said there are ways to deal with individual problems in health care, rather than "overhaul the system itself." She said "things Georgia needs to do independently to fix some of the problems" will also likely be discussed.
Scheduled panelists include Ron Bachman, senior fellow with the Center for Health Care Transformation, and Dr. James T. Sandwich, M.D.
Gerry Purcell, a Republican candidate for state insurance commissioner who has been described as a national medical insurance expert, will be participating. Also serving as a panelist will be Peter Janssen, who has experience as a patient in the health care system in the Netherlands.
The Center for Health Care Transformation is "a think tank on health care" started about three years ago, Bloedt said. Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich helped start the group. In his early Congressional career, Gingrich's district included Coweta County.
Bloedt described Bachman as "a walking encyclopedia" on the health care issue.
Bloedt said SCTPP does not "deal with issues on the extremes that are dividers with the two major parties." The group, which she described as bi-partisan, seeks to keep its focus on being fiscally responsible.

When Bush decided to lie and get us into a war that would (and did!!)cost us waaaaaay more than Healthcare reform will- Where was the outrage from the Conservative Right??? Why was no one screaming about $$ then?

I urge everyone to get knowledgable about Health Care reform, but be wary of anyone who is making up your mind for you. The only way to get a truly unbiased opinion about ANY bill in Congress is to hit the ".gov" sites and read it yourself. It is not only politicians who have hidden agendas.

While I am not the best write you clearly misread my first post and your reply of rantings made no sence. I do vote. I am a Southerner by birth and by 13 generations of ancestry in the South. I served in the military as well as every generation in my family. I only spoke of removing elected official by the election process, the removing of politicians and their replacements with statesmen. The despot methods you spoke of were dealt to Southerners by the Republican Abe Lincoln. I vote limited government and states rights.

I', proud to be called a yankee, but I am 100% Republican! I voted, but not for Obama! I believe that my money should always be my money! I even have a problem paying taxes which in turn goes to Welfare. I'm 42 and collecting Social Security due to a disability and still have to pay taxes to those who don't want to work. What about taxing Welfare! It wouls only seem fair! I;'ll be at the meeting to find out what is going to happen to me!

Hi BTZ: I'm glad your friend is hanging in there. Yes, other treatments are available abroad but it doesn't mean they're superior or even 'cutting edge,' just alternative. Thankfully, the Cancer Treatment Centers of America are coming to town. Hopefully they will be an option for patients like your friend and others. God bless! To Coweta Cur-mudgeon: Not enough notice? This has been scheduled since July. Can't help it if the Times-Herald waits until 2 days before to run a story about it.

It is not ture to say that everyone flocks here for cutting edge medical technology. my friend with cancer had to go to mexico to get cutting edge treatment for cancer because that type of treatment was not not approved to do that here by the government. She was given 3 months to live... 2 years ago. She is still kickin'. i don't know what the answer is, but i'm sure a new governemnt program is not it.

Not much notice given. Those who really care will try to be there. Let your voice be heard in a calm, rational manner.

Instead of cursing the darkness here, why not light a candle and attend the meeting tonight? Tonight's meeting is actually about INFORMATION. Elected officials will NOT be present. I can't wait to hear the story about socialized medicine, right from the patient's mouth. By the way, does the present administration want to overhaul Health Care or Health Insurance? Their position changes frequently. I don't want the government involved in EITHER. Regarding health care, no one leaves this country in search of better care. They flock to us for it! Must be doing something right.

YES, I vote! You must be one of those YANKEES!!You wanted a change and you got it.As the man said, NOTHING.

1. All politicians were voted in and you want to vote them out. ah... you don't vote do you? 2. Fighting for freedom to be denied health insurance coverage while paying for it when you buy your guns, diesel and groceries is a true southern warrior. 3. Your wanting to remove elected politicians and replacing them with un-elected statesmen is a dictatorship and very un-American. I mention this because it looks like you hadn't noticed.

You are correct. It will probably be another OBAMA SUMMITT.You know, the people in this country wanted a change and they got it."NOTHING".Changes are great if they are for the GOOD!

This tea party in Coweta is about useless. This tea party should be about rallying people against the marxist who intend to take over this country through health care. There is absolutly no counter proposal that is acceptable. When you remove the marxist then and only then can health care be addressed. All politicians should be voted out and replaced with statesmen who will stop the government takeover of our lives from the federal level down to local code enforcement. We are losing our freedom and you desire an obama style meeting.
