Teen runaway found in Tenn.

By Elizabeth Richardson

The Times-Herald

A 15-year-old runaway from Newnan was found safe Friday night just before midnight in Maryville, Tenn., according to Newnan Police Chief Douglas L. "Buster" Meadows.

Elizabeth Marie Campbell, who lives at 1200 Newnan Crossing Boulevard, Apt. 1203, was located with a truck driver who was reportedly driving her to meet a 17-year-old male in Tennessee.

According to Meadows, when Campbell was three counties away from her destination, she called the 17-year-old, whose mother notified authorities. A detective posing as the 17-year-old boy's mom called Campbell back and instructed her to stay where she was so they could come pick her up.

The police arrived at the location and unknown events transpired that resulted in the truck driver being tasered.

"As far as we know, the girl was not harmed," said Meadows. Campbell's parents left shortly after midnight to pick up their daughter.

Campbell's parents reported the juvenile missing after they found an instant message on their daughter's computer indicating she was running away. Police officials said Campbell's note led them to believe she was going to hitch a ride from Wal-Mart on Bullsboro Drive to Tennessee in order to meet the 17-year-old.

Campbell had last been seen on Wal-Mart video surveillance walking near a side entrance and heading in the direction of Interstate 85.
