'Taste of Newnan' is 5-8:30 Thursday

Tonight brings the fall Taste of Newnan festival, a chance to sample the fare of local restaurants, nonprofits and caterers as they serve up their most mouth-watering selections.

The Main Street Newnan-sponsored festival runs 5-8:30 p.m. on the Court Square, and good weather should bring a big crowd. Participating vendors set up booths all around the square and allow visitors to "purchase" food samples with varying numbers of $1 wooden tokens.

Advance token sales have been under way this week at the downtown branch of Neighborhood Community Bank, Newnan Health and Fitness, Bank of Coweta's downtown branch, Scott's Bookstore, Morgan Jewelers, Sweet Sensations, Globe Telecommunications, RS Mann Jewelers, Synergy Fitness, Costume Shop, Hit the Trail, NuLink, Carolyn Barron Montessori School and Paper Appointments.

The advance sales of tokens has been added for the festival in recent years because it reduces lines at token sales booths and makes the event more enjoyable, said Main Street Director Linda Bridges-Kee.

Main Street will still have token booths on the four corners of the square tonight -- sponsored by Newnan Health and Fitness, Neighborhood Community Bank, The Times-Herald and BB&T.

This year's fall edition of "Taste" will also feature a chili cook-off. Judges will be awarding $100 for first place, $50 for second and $25 for third place. Participants will also be voting for the People's Choice awards.

A few of the businesses that have already signed up include: Chick-fil-A, Texas Roadhouse, Quizno's Subs, Claire's Love Your Mother Cafe, Vinnie R's, Golden's On the Square, Catfish Hollow and Coldstone Creamery.

A Kidz Korner will be on West Washington Street once again. This fall the children's area will feature Dale Arrowood's Winged Ambassadors -- www.wingedambassadors.com -- as well as a bounce house and various other activities ranging from face painting to sand art, according to Bridges-Kee.

There will also be live entertainment on the Court Square.
