Do you think the City of Newnan should have waited until at least mid-month to begin hanging its Christmas decorations in downtown rather than the first week in November?

Suspects arrested in pizza robbery

By Elizabeth Richardson

The Times-Herald

Authorities arrested 17-year-old Reginald Lee Washington Jr. Friday afternoon for allegedly robbing a pizza delivery man at gunpoint Sunday night, and a second suspect -- Demario Arnold -- was arrested for harboring Washington.

Washington was taken into custody without incident at approximately 3 p.m. at 100 Corn Crib Road, located south of Newnan in the Corn Crib neighborhood off Millard Farmer Road, according to Major James Yarbrough of the Coweta County Sheriff's Office. Washington is charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Arnold, a known gang member, was arrested and charged with hindering the apprehension of a fugitive and possession of marijuana, according to sheriff's Investigator Warren Campbell.

"Further gang charges are to follow pending a thorough investigation," said Campbell.

The armed robbery incident occurred Sunday at approximately 10:25 p.m. at 130 Corn Crib Drive -- a vacant residence in the Corn Crib neighborhood. Washington resides at 55 Corn Row Court, according to Yarbrough.

A Papa John's delivery man, Gregory Barrows, was delivering pizza to the residence, according to the major. He arrived at the house, which was dark, and was met at the door by a man who said he was paying with a $50 bill and wanted change. As Barrows reached into his pocket, another male -- later identified as Washington -- came down the steps of the residence with a rifle in hand. The armed perpetrator demanded Barrows' money and the pizzas.

Barrows returned to his vehicle following the incident and called 911. Investigators later learned that no one was living in the house.

Campbell says the incident was related to "a known street gang operating in Corn Crib and Beverly Park."

The gang calls itself KC, or the Kool Cuttas.

"We encourage residents of these neighborhoods to come forward with criminal street gang information," said Campbell.

Anyone with information relating to this or other incidents is urged to call the sheriff's office, 770-253-1502.
