Newnan Police arrested a man who was charged with helping another suspect steal money from the safe of a local restaurant.
An employee of Five Guys, located in Ashley Park, told police someone removed $300 from the office safe around 7 p.m. on Thursday, an officer reported.
A security video showed a man entering the rear of the store and then using a door code to enter the office, the officer reported. The suspect then went to a safe and tried to open it while on his cell phone.
Shortly thereafter, another man, identified in reports as Steven Vaughan, entered the office, made eye contact with the suspect, and then both walked out of the office.
Police questioned Vaughan, who originally denied knowing anything, an officer reported.
"After viewing the video, Vaughan identified David Sinkfeild as the male who had taken the money from the safe," the officer said. "I asked Vaughan if he had given Sinkfeild the code to the safe and he stated that he had sent the safe code and office door code by text to Sinkfeild's phone."
Vaughan was arrested and charged with one count of theft by taking, the officer said in his report. Sinkfeild was still at large and charges are pending.
