State gasoline price average rises

By Sarah Fay Campbell

The Newnan Times-Herald

Although the Georgia state average for gasoline prices actually rose on Thursday, according to fuelgaugereport.com, some local stations were offering regular unleaded for very low prices.

Cowetans willing to shop around could get gas for as low as $2.299 a gallon on Thursday. Three stations along Bullsboro Drive were offering gasoline at that price. Other stations in the area were advertising regular unleaded for between $2.44 and $2.49 a gallon.

Across town on Franklin Highway, regular unleaded was $2.529 a gallon.

The Atlanta-area average price was $2.476 on Thursday, according to fuelgaugereport.com. That amount was up from $2.474 on Wednesday but down from $2.501 a week ago. A month ago, the average was $2.405.

And a year ago, it was just $1.901.

The high prices may continue to go down, as crude oil prices dropped Thursday.

The nearly 3 percent decline in crude oil prices was the result of a "global selloff on equity markets," according to The Associated Press. Oil prices are also being pushed down by a strengthening dollar. Since early February, the dollar has lost more than 16 percent of its value against the euro, AP said. The dollar gained one cent against the euro on Thursday.
