Main Street Newnan members met for the final time this year Tuesday night to discuss the arrival of Santa into downtown and all of the other upcoming holiday events.
As the song goes, "Santa Claus is coming to town." He will make his grand entrance into Newnan on Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. After arriving on the Newnan Fire Department's antique fire truck, Santa will be seated on the North Court Square. Children are encouraged to bring their Christmas lists and wishes. Santa will be available until 8 p.m.
New this year will be a professional photographer on hand to take pictures of the children with Santa. The pictures will be made available for purchase online.
"Downtown Newnan is beautiful during the holiday season, and the arrival of Santa has been a long tradition for the city," said Main Street Director Linda Kee. "All the wreaths and garland are hung, and the lights will be on. Most merchants will have holiday displays, and there's a festive mood in downtown," said Kee.
Those kids who can't make it into town to see Santa -- and even those who can -- are also invited to send him a letter via Santa's magic mailbox, which will be located on South Court Square near Scott's Bookstore in the coming week. Everyone who includes his or her name and address on the letter will receive a special, personalized gift from Santa's "elves" at Main Street (before the elves forward the correspondence on to Santa).
Also during Tuesday's meeting, Main Street members drew the raffle for two free tickets to see Chubby Checker at The Alamo on Nov. 22. The winner was Pammy Murphy.
Kee reminds that the last Market Day for the year will be held on Dec. 5 at the Court Square in downtown Newnan.
This year's kick-off Christmas parade will be Dec. 6 at 3 p.m.
The Cookie Walk will be on Dec. 11 from 5-8 p.m. There will be a map of businesses and cookies provided. Patrons are invited to stroll around to participating merchants to collect cookies and recipe cards.
