Registration continues for the Coweta County Sheriff's Office's 17th annual Bedrock Classic Golf Tournament Nov. 4 -- a benefit for its program for Coweta students.
The fundraising event is named for Steve Bedrosian -- Coweta resident and former Braves pitcher -- because of his tireless support for Project SAFE -- or Students Are For Education, according to Crook.
The deadline to register for the golf tournament is Oct. 31.
"All of the money raised goes back to the kids of Coweta County," said coordinator Lt. Stephen Crook. "Funds help pay for items we use in the SAFE program -- which keeps kids safe."
Project SAFE is a program in 21 elementary schools taught by sheriff's deputies. These officers discuss relevant topics with students, such as the consequences for using drugs, self-esteem, bullying, peer pressure, anger management, Internet safety and gangs.
The Nov. 4 tournament will be held at Orchard Hills Golf Club, 600 Highway 16 East. The driving range opens at 9 a.m. and a shotgun start begins at 9:30, according to Crook.
The cost to participate is $75 per person or $300 for a four-man team. Hole sponsorships are $100. The cost to participate includes food from Redneck Gourmet and drinks from Buffalo Rock.
"Every year we've had wonderful weather and have been well fed," said Crook. "We went down in price this year to make it more economically feasible so more people will be able to come out and participate."
Crook said hole sponsorships are not just available to businesses -- churches are welcome to take part, or individuals can purchase sponsorships in memory or honor of someone.
"Come join us for a relaxing day of fellowship on the course, and to help with a worthy cause," said Crook.
