A busy municipal election season is on tap for November, and qualifying for municipal offices will be held at the end of August.
In Newnan, the mayor's seat as well as council wards B and E will be on this year's ballot.
In Senoia, the mayor's seat and the council seats held by Larry Owens and Jeff Fischer will be up for election. Fischer was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Keith Harrison.
The winners of the election will be Senoia's first-elected officials to serve four-year terms.
In Grantville, council members Nick Sasso and Rochelle Jabaley are up for re-election.
Sharpsburg will be holding an election for the two council seats currently held by Gordy Anderson and Keith Rhodes, and for the unexpired term of Mayor Derrick McElwaney, who will be resigning at the end of the year. Two years remain on McElwaney's term.
Turin will be electing a mayor and two councilmen. The council seats are currently held by George Harris and Amanda Brack.
The seats on the Moreland Board of Aldermen currently held by Jeff Burgess and Myron McLain are up for election. There will also be a special election to fill the post of the late Jay Hurst. One year remains on that post, said Jane Scoggins, Coweta's election superintendent.
Qualifying begins Aug. 31. To qualify for an office, candidates must be registered to vote in their district, Scoggins said.
Candidates for Turin and Moreland will qualify with Scoggins in her office at 22 East Broad St. Qualifying will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 2.
Newnan candidates will likely qualify with City Clerk Della Hill.
Qualifying will be from 8:30 a.m. Aug. 31 through 4:30 Sept. 2.
Senoia candidates can qualify at Senoia City Hall. Qualifying will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 31 through Sept. 3, and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Sept. 4.
Council candidates do not qualify for a particular post. Instead, voters will pick two candidates on the ballot, and the seats go to the top two vote-getters.
Sharpsburg candidates will qualify with Town Clerk Donna Camp at Town Hall.
Qualifying will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, and 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 2. Candidates for the council seats do not declare a post. Instead, all candidates run together and the seats go to the top vote-getters.
