Qualifying continues for municipal offices

Today's the last day to qualify for municipal offices in Newnan, Moreland, Turin and Sharpsburg.

Qualifying lasts through Friday for Senoia and Grantville.

On Tuesday, Jeff Burgess and Myron McLain qualified for the seats they currently hold on the Moreland Board of Alderman.

No one has qualified to run for the unexpired term of the late Jay Hurst. Dick Ford has been appointed to fill the seat until the election.

No new candidates qualified in Newnan on Tuesday. Incumbents Keith Brady, Rhodes Shell and Ray Dubose qualified Monday.

In Turin, Mayor Alan Starr qualified to run for re-election. Council members George Harrison and Amanda Brack qualified Monday.

In Sharpsburg, Celene Davenport qualified to run for the unexpired term of Polly Garlington.

Garlington qualified Monday to run for mayor. Councilman Keith Rhodes qualified for his seat Monday.

No one has qualified for the seat currently held by Gordy Anderson.

Qualifying for Sharpsburg, Turin and Moreland ends at noon today. Newnan's qualifying continues until 4:30.

Turin and Moreland candidates qualify with Coweta Elections Superintendent Jane Scoggins in her office in the basement of the Coweta administration building at 22 East Broad St. Newnan and Sharpsburg candidates qualify with their respective city clerks.

In Senoia Tuesday, Councilman Larry Owens qualified for his post. Mayor Robert Belisle qualified Monday.

No one has qualified for the council seat held by Jeff Fisher. Fisher was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Keith Harrison, who resigned earlier this year.

Qualifying at Senoia City Hall is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today and Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday.

No one qualified in Grantville on Tuesday. Selma Coty qualified Monday for the council post currently held by Nick Sasso. No one has qualified for the seat currently held by Rochelle Jabaley.

Qualifying at Grantville City Hall is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today through Friday.
