Two officers with the Georgia State Patrol's Newnan post were recognized Monday for their efforts in combating drunk driving.
Trooper First Class Brandon Kight and Trooper First Class Sheena Alligood placed first and third respectively for the number of DUI arrests made by state troopers with Troop D in 2011.
Both are members of Newnan Post 24. Troop D is made up of 20 counties in west central Georgia and includes the Newnan post and six others. Second place went to Trooper First Class John Hutcheson with Post 4 out of Villa Rica.
"We are proud to recognize these fine troopers for their outstanding accomplishments in DUI enforcement," said Capt. Nikki Renfroe, Troop D commander.
Kight made 60 DUI arrests in 2011 and Alligood had 41. Hutcheson had 44 DUI arrests.
Renfroe presented certificates to both troopers during a ceremony Monday at the Newnan post.
The award is in honor of Trooper First Class Tony Lumley, who was killed in December of 2003 during pursuit of an armed robbery suspect.

Bettie....Wow, a little testy aren't you? Those that serve and protect are doing a great job. Just give them some credit for looking after us. You sound like you might be one that they caught during one of their operations. Granted, postal workers, NTH Moderators, Politicians and pre-K Funding folks do a great job, but if you need help and protection.....who you gonna' call? Certainly not a Politician. I'm calling GSP, CCSD or NPD. I hope you get over your problems with Coweta's Best.
