Northgate to 'turn up heat' for homecoming this week

The Times-Herald

The Northgate High School Vikings are turning up the heat as they celebrate Homecoming this week.

Activities begin today and continue through Friday. This year's theme is "Turn Up the Heat Homecoming."

Spirit week activities begin with today's "Flaming Flip-Flop Day" when students dress in tropical/vacation attire. Tuesday's theme, "'Two' Hot Tuesday," will allow students to pair with a peer and dress like twins.

Wednesday is "Turn Up the Heat Tacky Day," where students dress in tacky garb.

Wednesday afternoon will be highlighted by the annual Powderpuff Football Game. The girls will play football while the boys cheer them from the sidelines. The Powderpuff Game will be at 4 p.m. in the stadium with admission being $4 for all spectators.

The community is invited to attend the entertaining game.

Thursday's theme is "Sizzling Super Hero Day." Students are encouraged to dress like their favorite super hero.

Thursday afternoon the community is invited to watch the parade of homecoming court representatives and floats, led by the Northgate JROTC and the Viking Marching Band. The parade will begin at approximately 4 p.m. near the Coweta County Fire Department Fire Station, adjacent to the school property. The procession will then move down Fischer Road toward Northgate, make a "Viking Loop" through the softball parking lot, enter the main entrance to Northgate and end in the school's front parking lot.

Friday will be "Scorching School Spirit Day" at Northgate, a day for all students to wear their homecoming T-shirts. This year's T-shirt design was inspired by junior SGA member Justin Rourke -- then designed and printed by Promotional Graphix of Newnan on various neon color shirts.

The varsity football game is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. as the Vikings are looking to turn up the heat on the football field against the Banneker Trojans.

The female members of the homecoming court will be presented, and the 2008 homecoming queen will be crowned at halftime. Following the game, Northgate students, parents, and alumni are invited to attend the homecoming dance from 9-11 p.m. in the Johnny Brown Gymnasium.

Male members of the homecoming court will be presented at the dance, with the 2008 homecoming king being crowned at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Freshmen members of the homecoming court are Taylor Courson, Shelby Gray, David Higgins and Payton Usher.

Sophomore court members are Ashley Beal, William Beckom, Tori Copper, Dylan Bush, Gordy Duncan, Rachel Lowry, Jena Luke and Jake Peterson.

Juniors on the court will be Kelsi Adams, Heather Boone, Holly Brooks, Alex Fitchett, Cody Gatewood, Jeffrey Higgins, Shane Harper, Erica Lowery, Bree McChargue, Jerica Pealor, Toby Slagle and Chadd Smith.

Seniors on the court are Ariane Byron, Nick Bray, Jake Copeland, Zach Copeland, Charles Dyer, Ethan Harper, Sayre Henley, Michele LaRotonda, Tyler Marvin, Hillary Masdon, Karly Poucher, Michael Smith, Kara Somerville, Katie Wakefield, Chelsey Williamson and Seth Wood.
