Newnan's own Sarah Taylor, an accomplished singer, will make her debut with the Wadsworth & Friends Concert in Newnan this March.
Ginny Lyles, Newnan Cultural Arts Commission chair, has announced that the upcoming Charles Wadsworth & Friends Concert at Wadsworth Auditorium will feature a performance by Taylor. She will join the concert program in addition to the four previously announced musicians being brought by Wadsworth for the annual hometown event.
"In previous years, Courtenay Budd -- our own fantastically talented and homegrown classical singer -- has delighted our concert audiences. However, this year, our March 19 date proved to be a conflict for Courtenay," said Lyles.
"The March program will feature four world-class instrumentalists, but we wanted to add a vocalist. What to do? We asked Charles Wadsworth to seek a bass or baritone singer for the concert. Then, at a NCAC meeting, the name of Sarah Taylor was mentioned," explained Lyles. "Many of our members remembered young Sarah's many appearances at local events where she sang with such beauty and with such a crystalline-pure voice."
As it's turned out, Wadsworth -- thanks to David Kinrade, long-time concert volunteer and minister of music at First United Methodist Church -- had heard Sarah's beautiful voice, Lyles said. "Following a multitude of communications, it was decided that Sarah will appear on the Wadsworth Auditorium stage on March 19. Her performance will represent a very special musical presentation for Newnan and Coweta County audiences. We are so thrilled to present her."
Sarah Katherine Taylor is the daughter of Jim and Sally Taylor. She was a student at Elm Street Elementary, Evans Middle School, The Heritage School, and Newnan High School and participated in musical events in all those schools. Following graduation from Newnan High in 2005, Taylor attended Indiana University and graduated in 2009 after attaining a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance; a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history, and a Certificate in Liberal Arts and Management. She is now continuing her education as a graduate student in Athens at the University of Georgia.
Taylor will make her debut on Newnan's Wadsworth Auditorium stage in the company of concert host Charles Wadsworth and four additional concert artists: pianist Inon Barnatan, violinist Bella Hristova, cellist Sebastien Hurtaud, and Flutest Angela Jones-Reus.
Tickets for the event will be available after March 1. General seating adult tickets are $20 and senior/student tickets are $15.
