Newnan police believe they have now arrested the man responsible for a rash of car break-ins on Temple Avenue.
Jeffrey D. Woods, 36, of Lucky Street in Newnan, was arrested and faces seven counts of entering an automobile, drug charges and a parole violation for which he was already wanted by authorities, according to Detective Chad Wood of the Newnan Police Department.
According to the detective, Newnan investigated a rash of entering autos between Oct. 1 and Dec. 5 that occurred at Southern Auto Sales and Amigo Auto Sales, both located on Temple Avenue. The perpetrator in those crimes had been smashing windows and taking car stereos.
After examining security tape of the incidents, detectives identified Woods as the suspect. He was arrested on Dec. 5 without incident, according to Wood. Authorities found drug paraphernalia on Woods at the time of his arrest.
The following unrelated incidents were reported by the Newnan Police Department:
* On Dec. 1, the owner of the property located at 42 Reynolds St. visited the property to board up the residence after her tenant was evicted. She found several people inside the home and immediately left the property and contacted police.
Authorities were dispatched to the residence and spotted a suspect outside who was later identified as 35-year-old Orlando Adams, of East Point, according to the police incident report. Adams reportedly threw a marijuana cigarette at a police officer and then fled toward nearby woods. The suspect was apprehended after a short foot chase. Officers located a small plastic bag containing suspected cocaine on the ground where Adams was first confronted.
Inside the residence, police located three additional suspects -- Marcus Barfield, Zella North and Krista Roey, according to the incident report. The house was reportedly filled with items used to manufacture crack cocaine. Police also located several bags of cocaine and seized a pistol and a revolver.
All four suspects were transported to the Coweta County Jail.
* James Edward Stoetzner, 48, of Palmetto, was arrested on Nov. 2 for driving under the influence and failure to yield following a two-vehicle accident at 55 Newnan Crossing Bypass. The accident involved a Honda Accord and Ford F-150.
At the scene, Officer Jonathan Caswell noticed the smell of alcohol coming from Stoetzner, the driver of the Ford truck. When confronted with the accusations, Stoetzner became aggressive toward police. He refused to submit to field sobriety tests, and so he was placed under arrest for DUI. During transport, he started complaining of chest pains saying that "something was poking him in the heart."
However, when they arrived at the hospital, Stoetzner reportedly refused to get out of the patrol car and, instead, started cussing and yelling. Stoetzner repeatedly cursed and yelled at police and then would apologize to them.
The suspect calmed down at the hospital and reportedly told a nurse that he was "drunk" on four beers and that he didn't stop before entering the road and hitting another car. Later he said it was the other driver's fault for running a red light -- although the officer noted that it wasn't a signalized intersection.
The suspect became belligerent again and police secured him to the bed and threatened to use a taser on him in order to get him to comply.
