Main Street Newnan has big plans for this year's Fourth of July. In addition to the annual parade and fireworks, the community will be able to enjoy Market Day, The Annual Homemade Ice Cream Festival, attractions from Starwalk Enterprises and Music from Pickin' on the Square.

Market Day will kick off at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning and continue throughout the day. Over 60 vendors will be around the Courthouse Square showcasing the best homemade, homegrown and handmade items in the area.

CLM is operating a normal schedule for the 4th of July since the holiday falls on Saturday. No one'S service times will be interrupted or moved.

CLM would like to remind everyone that if they recycle, during this holiday don't forget to recycle the paper plates, cups, soda cans, etc. from all of the barbecues and picnics.

The city of Newnan Building Department has received plans for a Sports Clips to be located at 335 Newnan Bypass Crossing, Suite C. The new barber shop will be 1,342 square feet. The new salon will be near the Vitamin Shoppe.

Headquartered in Georgetown, Texas, Sport Clips opened its first store in 1993 in Austin, Texas. Sport Clips CEO and founder, Gordon Logan, recognized there was a market niche in targeting just-for-guys hair salons.

The city of Newnan city offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the 4th of July holiday weekend. City Hall will reopen Monday, July 6 at 8 a.m.

There were seven new occupational tax certificates issued by the city. The business names are Coweta Novelties, Personal Fitness, Pro-Stitch Inc., Raymond Huff Insurance Agency, Inc., Richmond Electric Motor & Pump Service, Seguros Global Inc. dba El Carrito Insurance and Shepard & Smith Painting.

In the ongoing support for the Metro Atlanta "Clean Water Campaign," the city reminds citizens that the highest concentration of pesticides in metro Atlanta's rivers and streams are found during the month of May. Excessive amounts of fertilizer and pesticides will harm fish and other aquatic life as well as degrade the quality of rivers, lakes and streams. Nutrients from fertilizers- usually phosphates- enter rivers, lakes and streams and stimulate the growth of algae. Excessive algae growth harms oxygen levels in lakes and ponds, thus killing fish and other aquatic life.

Use pesticides (herbicides and insecticides) properly and sparingly in order to help protect the quality of rivers, lakes and streams.

The city of Newnan Animal Control Officer, Cyndi Hoffman offers advice for emergency situations. Citizens should be prepared to care for their animals. Prepare in advance an emergency crate to transport your animals in and have bottled water and food ready to go for them. Also, have a family member or friend who can take in your animals while you are displaced from your home. Being prepared in advance will help take some of the stress off if and when an emergency should arise.

Call your local salvage company for the current pricing on aluminum and help your children learn the value of an empty can in money and recycling terms.
