The city of Newnan Building Department has received plans for Haven Med Spa to be located in the Ashley Park lifestyle center.

The medical facility will be 2400 square feet. The facility will be near DSW Shoe Warehouse.

The Building Department has also received plans for an All Star Storage to be located at 39 South Industrial Drive. It will be 40,000 square feet of space and a self storage facility. The storage facility will be housed in two new buildings.

There were three new tax occupational licenses issued by the city: Everlasting Construction, Full Circle and Golf Carts Plus.

Cell phones contain toxic metals such as antimony, beryllium, caesium, lead and zinc. These chemicals do not do good things for the environment, so it's important to stop them from reaching landfills.

You can recycle your phone easily with Keep Newnan Beautiful. Just pick up one of our postage paid envelopes at City Hall and drop your old phone in. You can send off old accessories, too, including the batteries and chargers. The phone goes to a facility that refurbishes old phones for re-use in some poorer countries and recycles the useless ones. There are also groups who refurbish phones for use by soldiers overseas. In our ongoing support of our Metro Atlanta "Clean Water Campaign", the Engineering Department reminds only 14 percent of the 70,150 total stream and river miles in our state are monitored. (Of that percentage nearly 60% do not meet water quality standards.)

The best way to help monitor the other 86% is to report waste hot spots (areas of potential contaminates that could wash down a storm drain), spills, clogged catch basins (allows for localized flooding and infestation of vermin), illegal dumping, and illicit connections or discharges (any connection to the storm drain system that is not permitted) into the streets or storm drain system. To report any of these activities, please call the City of Newnan Environmental Hotline at 770-253-1823.

The city of Newnan Animal Control Officer, Cyndi Hoffman offers advice for people who are faced with foreclosure and the loss of their pets:

* Check with friends, family and neighbors to see if someone can provide temporary foster care for your pet until you get back on your feet. Agree to a specific time frame, and check on the pet regularly;

* If you are moving into a rental property, make sure pets are allowed and get permission in advance -- and in writing; and

* Contact your local animal shelter, humane society or rescue group, in advance of your move, since many shelters limit their admissions to the number of animals they can adequately care for. If a shelter agrees to take in your pet, provide medical records, behavior information, and anything else that might assist shelter workers in finding your pet a new home.

"It is difficult and heartbreaking to lose a pet as a result of economic hardship," said Hoffman. "But pet parents may take comfort in knowing that their pet will be better off, if they plan ahead and keep their cat or dog's well-being in mind." For emergencies please call (770) 254-2355.
