Keep Newnan Beautiful wants to remind you, aluminum cans are worth cash. If you're looking for a way to teach your children the value of money, try saving aluminum cans and cashing them in. Call your local salvage company for the current pricing on aluminum and help your children learn the value of an empty can in money and recycling terms.
In our ongoing support of our Metro Atlanta "Clean Water Campaign," the Engineering Department reminds citizens, it is important to think about stormwater pollution as you wash your vehicle. According to the Southern Carwash Association, the average person will consume 150 gallons of water washing their car at home. If that car wash takes place in a driveway, the majority of that soapy water will run off directly to the creeks and streams. It is claimed that only 8-15 gallons of water are consumed at a professional or "do it yourself" carwash and the rest of the water is recycled for later use. So remember, either take your car to the carwash or wash your car in the grass. For more info go to www.cleanwatercampaign.com
The city of Newnan Animal Control Officer, Cyndi Hoffman offers a tip for lost pet owners, millions of pets become lost each year. Tragically, few are reunited with their owners. It is important that your pet has identification at all times. Collars and tags are essential, but they can fall off or become damaged. Technology has made it possible to equip your pet with a microchip for permanent identification.
A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted between the pet's shoulder blades under the skin with a needle and special syringe. The process is similar to getting a shot. Once in place, the microchip can be detected immediately with a handheld device that uses radio waves to read the chip. This device scans the microchip, and then displays a unique alphanumeric code. The pet must then be registered with the microchip company, usually for a one-time fee, so that your pet can be traced back to you if found. Microchips are designed to last for the life of your pet. The County Shelter scans all animals that are brought into the facility. Please speak to your veterinarian about microchipping your pet.
