Newnan High School Parade on Thursday
by Celia Shortt
The annual homecoming activities at Newnan High School have begun.
The 2013 homecoming theme is “No Place Like Home … OZ.” The Homecoming Parade will be held after school on Thursday, Sept. 26; and on Friday, the Cougar football team will compete against Hardaway High School.
Following tradition, students this weekend painted the window fronts of downtown businesses, with student groups competing for the Best Window decoration. The student body is celebrating the entire week with themed dress-up days. Classroom doors and hallways will also be decorated and judged. Winners will be announced during half-time at Friday’s football game.
The Homecoming Parade led by the ROTC and Newnan High Marching Cats band will depart from Newnan High on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., travel up LaGrange Street and wind through downtown Newnan. Area feeder schools will compete for the best float representing the theme of homecoming, and several alumni groups, including the combined classes of ‘82, ’83, and ‘84 will also participate. A pep rally will be held on South Court Square immediately following the parade, beginning at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The varsity Cougars football team will host the Hardaway Hawks of Columbus in Drake Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27. The Homecoming Court will be presented and the queen will be crowned during half-time. Tickets for the game cost $7 and may be purchased at the gate or in the Main Cafeteria at Newnan High on Thursday and Friday during lunches between noon and 1:45 p.m.
