The informational open house on the Highway 34 Bypass extension and associated projects will be held Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Coweta County Fairgrounds.
Visitors can view the proposed route, speak to representatives from the county and the state, and submit comments.
A court reporter will be available to take down comments.
There will be no formal presentation.
The project includes not only extending the bypass from its current end at Turkey Creek Road southward to Highway 16, but also the widening of Highway 16 from the Interstate 85 bridge to U.S. 29, and the intersection improvement at U.S. 29, Highway 16 and Pine Road.
All three projects will be let together, with one general contractor. The contract letting is currently scheduled for spring 2014, said Patricia Palmer, Coweta’s public affairs director.
Right-of-way acquisition is set to begin this spring, Palmer said.
The project will be a joint effort of Coweta County, the state and the Federal Highway Administration.
Those who wish to make comments on the project but can’t attend the open house can submit written comments to: Glenn Bowman, State Environmental Administrator, Georgia Department of Transportation, 600 West Peachtree St. NW — 16th Floor, Atlanta, Ga., 30308.
The deadline for comments is Jan. 21.
Copies of the environmental documents for this project will be available at the open house and at the Coweta County Development and Engineering Department, 21 East Washington St., Newnan.
