Newnan Mayor Keith Brady and councilmen Rhodes Shell and Ray DuBose will be up for re-election in the fall, and Tuesday evening the Newnan City Council will vote on resolutions naming the qualifying dates, the election superintendent and the assistant superintendent.
Council will vote on a resolution opening qualifying for the mayoral race and districts B and E at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 31. The closing of qualification time will be 4:30 p.m. Sept. 2.
Council members will also consider a resolution appointing Jane Scoggins election superintendent and Della Hill the assistant election superintendent for the Nov. 3 general election.
Also during the meeting, council will review a request from Mike Furbush, the staff liaison for the Newnan Youth Activities Commission, to the city for funding. The commission is in charge of overseeing the Newnan Youth Council by determining the needs and concerns of the youth; expose and educate the youth to the operations of their local government; and to assist the city's youth in dealing with issues affecting them.
The commission has now interviewed, selected and contacted the 16 high school students who will comprise the inaugural Newnan Youth Council. The students will assume their responsibilities in early August.
The commission has no source of funding currently available, according to Furbush's correspondence. The commission is requesting $2,500 in funding to get the youth council up and running for the remainder of this year.
On Tuesday, council will also consider a request from Tin Roof Films to shoot portions of "The Fat Boy Chronicles" in downtown Newnan Aug. 3-5.

Yeah I'm not a hugh fun of public parks either. The few times I went to the park it was nasty. I just prefer to stay at home and let the kids play in their own yard.

1st avenue park. I like that park, but my 2 year old always says "mommy i want to swing" then we have to go the utilies park, which I am not a fan of because the bigger kids aren't considerate of the little guys. Thats is why I want the swing, and so does every other parent that doesn't like the super crowded bully park. To my appologies, i wasn't suggesting the park cost too much, it did cost too much. So I use it, I like it, it is pretty and quiet, it just needs 1 swingset.

to really. I missinterpreted your comment and thought you were suggesting the park cost too much. Swings would be lovely.

The city and county are two very different things. The Mayor is really just symbolic. The city manager is the one who runs the city. The council really only does what the city manager tells them. And which park doesn't have a swing set?

I will quit complaining about the gazillion dollar park once there is a swing set in it. I believe you missed the point. It was simple.

Now is our chance to get some quality people in these seats. Who will step up and make a difference in coweta county and run against these people? You already have my vote. We need a change.

hey things are pretty good here...go to Roswell, Snellville, Griffin and compare. be careful what you wish for. Are we really complaining about parks? Right, let's go back to the auto-title pawn trailer. Much better.

I will help re-elect Brady if he will put a swing set in the gazillion dollar park that should have only cost half of what was paid for it. Oh, and we don't want to pay for it, I want you to "donate" it personally. A swing set, that's all.

Do you have to hold a Real Esate Lic. to be mayor? First Gandy Glover and then our present mayor.
