The intersection improvements at Highway 54, Highway 154 and McIntosh Trail in Sharpsburg are complete, and traffic seems to be running smoothly.

The improvements consist of turning lanes, complete with dividers and crosswalks on Highway 154, and a traffic light.

The light is currently in "test mode," said Kimberly Larson, regional spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The light began operation on Sept. 4, Larson said, and the test mode lasts 30 days. So testing essentially was ending Sunday.

Test mode seems like normal operation to motorists. During the test mode, data is collected to make sure that the timing of the signals is just right for maximum efficiency and traffic flow.

After the end of the test period, "they may adjust the timing some," Larson said.

Work on the project began in October 2007. The DOT funded project was done by contractor R.J. Haynie and Associates.
