The Newnan Times-Herald

The Optimist Clubs of Senoia and Peachtree City will be hosts for a visit by the Harlem Ambassadors basketball team at East Coweta High School Feb. 25, and they are gathering a team of local challengers.

Just a few of the players who have volunteered to play against the Harlem Ambassadors on the challenging team of "Optimist All-Stars," said Senoia Optimists President Hal Sewell, are: Lynda Dell Quick, 2004 inductee into the Coweta County Sports Hall of Fame; Robert Belisle, Mayor of Senoia; Walter Drake, Coweta County School Systems' facilities coordinator; and several coaches from local area schools.

The game with the Harlem Ambassadors will begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $5 in advance; $7 at the game. They can be purchased from an Optimist Club member or from any one of the following locations: Senoia Coffee Co., Big Chic, Southern Lawn Designs or Crook's Marketplace (Senoia); Scott's Book Store (Newnan); Miles Ace Hardware (Peachtree City); Tea Fusions (Peachtree City), & The Bank of Georgia (Peachtree City, Sharpsburg, & the Newnan/Summit location).

The Harlem Ambassadors team is made up of talented male and female basketball players who are drug-free, college-educated and positive in appearance, said Sewell. They are committed to giving their audience quality family entertainment and serving as positive role models for young people.

The Harlem Ambassadors:

* Play against a team of local leaders and hometown heroes

* Are the largest provider of entertainment to the U.S. military

* Encourage youth to "stay in school" and "stay off drugs"

* Serve as excellent role models for youth

"Our Optimist clubs do a great number of activities in our local areas throughout the year to recognize and encourage youth as well as promoting meaningful events in our communities," said Sewell. The motto of Optimist International is "Friend of Youth."

"We are excited about the opportunity to bring an evening of great family fun to our area, and we hope you will take advantage of this event, said Sewell.

Sponsorships for the event are still being taken through Feb. 12.
