Exit 47 ramps at Bullsboro Drive will be temporarily closed at night next week as the Georgia Department of Transportation contractor continues work on the widening of Interstate 85 through Coweta County
The Exit 47 (State Route 34) ramps to and from Interstate 85 will be temporarily closed in order for crews to pave the remaining lanes of the mainline and the ramp taper for I-85, said DOT spokeswoman Kimberly Larson.
The work will begin at 7 p.m. and continue until 5 a.m. nightly Monday through Thursday and from 9 p.m. until 9 a.m. Friday.
On Monday and Tuesday the northbound off-ramp and the southbound on-ramp will be closed, Larson said. Motorists will be detoured to Exit 51 at SR 154/McCollum-Sharpsburg Road. Signed detour routes will be in place.
"Motorists are advised to anticipate delays and to avoid travel near this area of I-85," Larson said.
Wednesday through Friday, the northbound on-ramp and the southbound off-ramp will be closed. Motorists will be detoured to Exit 41 (SR 14/U.S. 27 Alternate at Moreland). Signed detour routes will be in place. Motorists are advised to anticipate delays and to avoid travel near this area of I-85.
This is a work zone and extreme caution is required, Larson reminded. Speed limits have been reduced and will be strictly enforced.
Message boards, signs, barricades, barrels and cones will be utilized to alert and channel motorists through the area, she said. Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will be operating in close proximity to travel lanes.
There will also be I-85 lane closures near Exit 35 (U.S. 29 at Grantville) and Exit 41 (Moreland) Monday through Friday. The closures are subject to change based on weather conditions, Larson said. They include:
-- Interstate 85 northbound daily Monday through Thursday near mileposts 37-41. Work will be done 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Lane closures will alternate between right and left lanes for work beginning near Exit 35.
-- State Route 34 at I-85 (Exit 47) east and westbound lane closures nightly Sunday through Thursday, Nov. 1-5 near mileposts 15 - 16, 7 p.m. - 7 a.m.; and on Friday, Nov. 6 from 9 p.m. - 9 a.m. One right and left lane closed; one remains open to traffic
The scheduled completion date for this project is Dec. 31, 2009.
