Haralson's parade, fireworks tonight

It may be the day after July 4, but Independence Day festivities continue in Coweta and nearby communities.

Several churches have patriotic-themed events planned for today. Haralson's parade and fireworks will be held this evening.

Bethesda Pentecostal Church of God will be holding a July 4 celebration at its 11 a.m. service today. The Farmer Street church will also celebrate Family and Friends Day and will welcome its new pastor, Cliff Hendrix.

A time for food and games will follow the service at Bethesda.

Two churches in adjoining counties also have events planned for today. At Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Alvaton, the family of a World War II veteran will receive his military dog tags. The soldier lost the metal ID while serving in Indonesia during World War II.

The dog tags were sent to the Pacific Wrecks Dog Tag Project. A representative of that organization contacted a member at Mt. Zion, who arranged for Sunday's presentation at the 11 a.m. service.

First Baptist Church of Newnan and Flat Creek Baptist Church in Fayetteville have again joined their sanctuary choirs for a patriotic music event. Freedom Celebration 2009 was presented at First Baptist on Friday. It will be done again at Flat Creek today at 7 p.m.

Haralson's Independence Day parade will start at 7:30 p.m. -- with a route weaving through the small town in southeastern Coweta County. Eric Spencer and Bo Rosemas coordinated plans for the parade and the celebration.

"We've got a live band playing from 8 to 9 or 9:15," Spencer said. Bottom Line from Newnan will be the band.

After the concert, a fireworks display will light up the night sky. "It ought to be a good time," Spencer said.
