The 2012 presidential election is the most important election of our lifetime, said Calista Gingrich at a rally for her husband, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, in Peachtree City Friday night.
And "Newt is the only candidate with the experience and knowledge necessary to rebuild the America we love," Mrs. Gingrich added.
Calista Gingrich was introduced by Newt's daughter, Jackie Gingrich Cushman, a syndicated columnist and author. Mrs. Gingrich then introduced her husband to the crowd of 300-400 in a hangar at Falcon Field airport, with the campaign bus as a backdrop.
Newt has "bold solutions to create a better future for all Americans," she said.
"Bold" was how Jeanne Billa, co-chairman for the Gingrich campaign in Coweta County, described Newt when she was asked why he is her chosen candidate.
"He has all the answers," she said. "He has bold ideas and he's decisive about making them happen."
Newt Gingrich began his speech by calling out fellow candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum for withdrawing from a CNN debate in Atlanta; the debate had to be canceled.
"Maybe they don't want to run the risk of being outside their advertising," Gingrich said. "If you're afraid to debate Newt Gingrich, you sure can't debate Barack Obama. I ask them to reconsider and come to Georgia. It will be just fine. We'll be hospitable. And frankly, there's something wrong when someone tries to buy their way to the presidency."
Two men dressed in chicken suits -- one in a Romney T-shirt and one in a Santorum shirt, were in the crowd, with "Romney's" sign saying, "I'm chicken to debate Newt."
As for Obama, he is "the most radical, the most destructive, the most unconstitutional president we've ever had," Gingrich said.
Gingrich is looking forward to debating the president.
"I don't believe he can defend his radical views," Gingrich said.
And Gingrich wants to tell Congress that "we expect you to work with the new president ... and actually get things done, not just bicker and fight all the time."
If elected, Gingrich wants to work with Congress to repeal Obama-care, the Dodd-Frank bill, and the Sarbannes-Oxley act. He said he will issue several executive orders on his first day; the orders will be released to the public on Oct. 1, he said. He will abolish all the White House "czars," approve the Keystone oil pipeline, and move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. He also wants to "repeal every anti-religious act" by the Obama administration.
Gingrich is not trying to attract just the Republican faithful.
"We want to appeal to every American, every ethnic group," he said. "I'm prepared to be very bold in getting things done."
Gingrich spoke about the need for an American energy policy to eliminate the nation's dependence on foreign oil. He said he would allow offshore drilling for oil and open federal lands to oil and gas exploration.
Gingrich said there are estimates the U.S. government could earn $18 trillion in royalties from new oil and gas leases -- enough to pay off the national debt.
And all that oil and gas exploration can help lower unemployment.
Gingrich said he'd like the U.S. to get back to about 4 percent unemployment, and his goal is to "get back to $2.50 gas."
Additionally, he'd abolish the "cafe" -- corporate average fuel economy -- standards.
While the government and the liberals are trying to get people to buy smaller cars, Americans are buying trucks, Gingrich said.
Cowetan Anne Merkl has been a Gingrich supporter for many years.
"I thought it was wonderful," she said of Friday's event. "Newt is going to do what he says he's going to do. You can take that to the bank. I am so proud of Newt. And his whole family. They're working really hard.
"I think his is brilliant."
Jodi Shepard of Newnan agrees. "He's the smartest man I've ever met," she said.
Gingrich holds a master's degree and Ph.D. in history and was a professor at West Georgia College before becoming involved in politics. It was the "shout-out" to West Georgia that got the biggest response at Friday's rally.
Neal Shepard remembers when Gingrich would come to Newnan High School to speak. He recalled having 150 students assembled in the band room to hear Newt. The students were so rapt, "you could hear a pin drop," Shepard said.

Why should I have to hire a lawyer to sue the other person for damages if they refuse or do not have the money to pay for damages to my auto? of medical bills.

Is it alright for government to tell you to buy auto insurance?

Chicago to Washington along with the corruption that goes with it. The last two years of Bush , Congress both House and Senate were majority Democrat if you wish to bring up stonewalling. Obama still has a majority Senate. It's not OK for Newt to tell you what car to buy but OK for Obama to tell you that you have to buy insurance and that then be subject to bureaucrats to determine what medical treatment you may or may not have?

I am with Newt because he will be a strong leader. He will lead to gut the legislation that has caused taken away many of our individual freedoms. He'll lead to balance our budget. Newt did it once and he'll do it again. He'll stand firm with the American people to fight judicial activism. I have confidence that Newt will do what he says.

who is
Newt Gingrich?

How dare He tell me as a consumer what kind of car or truck I want. Sounds like he's trying to appeal to Rednecks not all ”ethnic groups” as he claims. A wise man is a man who knows he knows nothing. If Congress has stonewalled President Barack Obama what makes him think President Gingrich(sarcasm) would be treated differently? He should stick to what he does best lobbying.

What rock have you been hiding under. Chicago was just selected as the most corrupt government in the country. Guess who is a product of that, you guy Barack Hussein Obama. The corruption continues all the way to DC. Big donors getting Gov't "Green" loans with no oversight, 2 ultra left wing Supreme Court Justices, and too much more to list. It was sad so many were suckered into voting for him once, even sadder that many will vote for him again. As bad as the GOP field is, any of them will be better than what we have now.

For almost seven years Newt and Callista woke up every morning and made the selfish and immoral decision to continue to engage in a an adulterous relationship. We deserve better.

Newt Gingrich must forgot about George Bush because he is by far the worst president ever. I hope Newt debate President Obama then I know the president will win!

Newt rose in the polls when he just stuck to jhis ideas and what he'd do as President...once het allowed himself to get drawn into the mudslinging, he's gotten drowned by those with more money (Romney) and less skeletons (Santorum)

newt is 22 years older than his "wife"...this man runs on ego & arrogance...take the blinders off, people.

A lot of our so called fellow cowetian Christians are always the first to cast stones, but I'm not surprised. He is a man of fault, but at least he is not a snake oil salesman like Romney.

I think that Newt has been the first to take accountability for his mistakes and the hurt he caused others. What if we all faced our bathroom mirrors every morning and considered our own life. Has it been perfect? Have we always been kind to family as well as coworkers and strangers? Judge ones self first!

So according to your logic, Kennedy was a failure, Washington was a failure. Roosevelt was a failure. Jefferson was a failure. Clinton was a failure. Shall I go on,?
Sure, he's got an enormous ego, but he's got the brains, experience, track record and backbone to back it up.
I don't agree with Newt's affair, either, but I do believe that he is the best choice to get this country turned around and back on track. As it is, we are way off in a ditch and this country cannot survive four more years of Obama.

Judge a man first by how he treats his family. This man is a failure.

Well, at least he'll get ONE vote!

The difference is, driving is a priviledge, not a right. You don't want to buy auto insurance, you really don't have to- just don't drive. Furthermore, unlike Obama's healthcare plan, no-fault insurance requirement is a state law, not a Federal mandate.
Obama's mandatory health insurance is a different story all together.
Just more flawed logic from the Democratic left, but then, I suppose if it wasn't for flawed logic, there wouldn't be a Democrat party these days.
